My brother-in-law, who runs a small marina, asked me why we always dredge the same channel bend every spring instead of just putting down some riprap.
It made me realize we're so focused on moving material that we never stop to ask if we could just stop the problem at the source, so has anyone worked with a geotech to design a permanent fix instead of a recurring dig?
Is the recurring dredge really a big enough problem to fix? Permanent solutions can be very expensive and disruptive to install. Sometimes the regular maintenance is the cheaper, simpler answer.
Ugh, I saw a report where a town kept putting off a real fix for their dredging issue. The constant maintenance costs ended up being WAY more than just doing it right once.
