Swapped out my 10 inch dredge for a 6 inch last month on a job near Baton Rouge

I always thought bigger was better for moving material fast. But we were working a tight canal off the Mississippi with old pipes and kept getting clogs. The 10 inch was just too much for the system. After three days of clearing blockages every few hours, I swapped to a 6 inch and we cut the job time by nearly a day. Has anyone else downsized and seen better results in tight spots?

downsized and seen better results" - guess that makes you the exception to the rule, huh?

Downsized and seen better results" - I've got a friend who swapped his truck's V8 for a four-cylinder and somehow ended up towing more. Makes you wonder if bigger really means better sometimes. @ray_hernandez is right, you gotta fit the tool to the job.

Man that's rough, sorry you had to deal with that. Nothing worse than spending half your shift yanking clogs instead of actually moving material. I've been in similar situations where the bigger gear just doesn't fit the real job. Sometimes the smaller setup ends up being the smarter move, even if it feels like a downgrade at first. Good on you for making the switch instead of just fighting it.
