Swapped out my old cutter head teeth for a new style mid-season
I used to run standard carbide teeth on my 12-inch dredge and had to change them every 40 hours or so. Then a buddy at the Port of Houston let me try his set of conical teeth with a different shank design last September. Those things lasted almost 100 hours before I needed to swap them out. The difference was the cutting angle and how they shed the mud instead of clogging up. Has anyone else tried those conical style teeth on a sandy bottom?

Nah, my buddy Jim tried em and they chipped on his first gravel bar.

Yeah but were you running them in straight sand or sand mixed with gravel? I've got a buddy who tried those same conical teeth on a river bottom with pea gravel mixed in and they actually wore down faster because the gravel got lodged between the teeth and the shank. He said the angle change made them dig in deeper too, which killed his horsepower pretty quick. What was your pump setup when you ran them?
