Mortar dried too fast on a job in Phoenix last Tuesday

I was laying block on a retaining wall out near Buckeye and the temp hit 108 by noon. The mortar started crusting over before I could even tap the next block level. I ended up having to wet down both the blocks and the mix every 20 minutes just to keep it workable. Anyone else deal with this kind of heat drying out your joints mid-row?

I used to just glance at the indemnification section until a client tried to hold me liable for their own third-party vendor screw-up. Now I actually read who covers what and it blocked a nightmare before it started. Anyone else have a contract line item that burned them before they learned to check it?

Lost $120 on those fancy raised bed kits from Amazon

I bought those cedar raised bed kits that come in a flat box. Looked great in the photos, but after assembly the wood started splitting within 2 months. The bottom boards rotted out by fall because they used super thin material. I could have built twice as many beds for that money using rough lumber from the local yard. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand or just stick to building from scratch?

Hit 500 floppy disks in my collection this week

I was just sorting through a box I got at a garage sale in Ann Arbor and counted them up for fun. It's not a huge number compared to some folks but it felt like a real milestone for me since I started collecting last March.

Serious question, why did I wait so long to finally tune my 5.0

I used to think a tune was just for guys who wanted to drag race every weekend. Kept my 2016 F150 bone stock under the hood for like 4 years. Then last summer I got tired of the transmission hunting for gears on the highway near Austin. My buddy Mike told me to try a 93 octane tune from a local shop down in San Antonio. So I finally did it back in October and man, the difference is night and day. The throttle response alone made the truck feel like it lost 500 pounds. I was worried about messing up the warranty but I got a handheld tuner so I can flash it back to stock if I need to. Has anyone here had reliability issues after a few years with a tune on their Coyote motor?

My video editing software crashed 6 times in one afternoon and I lost 3 hours of work

Last Tuesday I was in the zone cutting together a 12 minute review video. I had all the b-roll placed perfectly and was just tweaking the audio levels when my laptop froze for the THIRD time. Each crash took about 10 minutes to reboot and pray the auto-save worked. By the fifth crash I was literally talking to my screen, begging it to just let me export one time. Has anyone else had this happen with Premiere on a Windows machine or is it just me?

Why do manuals always skip the one pin that kills you?

I was tracing a power issue on a Collins RTU-4200 last week and the manual just said 'check pin 14 for voltage.' Turned out pin 14 was the signal ground and the real offender was pin 22 that had a cold solder joint. Took me 3 hours with a multimeter and a prayer to figure it out. Has anyone else had a manual leave out that one critical detail that costs you half a shift?

Just realized I was using the wrong tool for trimming my raised garden beds all along

I spent 3 summers hacking at my cedar planter boxes with a regular handsaw, cussing every time the wood split. Last week a neighbor saw me and said, why aren't you using a Japanese pull saw? I grabbed one for $25 at the hardware store and it cut through like butter in 2 minutes flat. No more splintered edges or wasted wood pieces. Has anyone else had that moment where one simple tool swap saved you hours of frustration?

Honestly, my digital portraits looked flat for months until I tried a specific brush setting in Procreate.

I was only using default round brushes, but switching to a textured one with 'wet mix' at 35% opacity gave the skin real depth instantly. Anyone else find a simple brush tweak that fixed a major art problem?
