Why does nobody talk about using a short hose for stubborn silt?

Everyone says you need a long suction line to get good flow, but last month on the Mobile River we kept clogging on thick silt. I cut the hose down to just 15 feet as a last ditch move. The shorter line built way more vacuum pressure and pulled the dense stuff through without a single jam. It goes against the book, but it got the job done in half the time. Has anyone else tried a short hose setup for heavy material?

We ran a 12-foot line in the Everglades muck and it never clogged once.

Well look at that, the rule book is wrong again! Sometimes you just have to ignore the so-called experts and try the dumb idea that makes sense. All that theory about long hoses goes out the window when you're actually fighting real mud. Your shorter hose probably just didn't give the heavy stuff enough time to think about clogging! Guess the real trick is whatever gets the job done without making you want to throw the pump in the river.

My 8-foot hose never clogs on thick slurry.
