Sub told me my caulking was too thick and it saved my next kitchen backsplash

I had this tile guy I hired for a small backsplash tell me I was laying down way too much caulk around the corners. He said it should be almost invisible, just a thin bead then tool it flat. I went back and redid it on my next job using his method and it looked ten times cleaner. Anyone else had a sub call them out on something small that actually made a big difference?

Yeah, your tile guy was spot on about that. I had a similar thing with a painter I hired years ago. He told me I was cutting in too heavy at the ceiling line, making it look wobbly. So on my next room, I used way less paint on the brush and did shorter strokes. It made a huge difference in the clean line I got. Sometimes the pros see these little habits we don't even notice ourselves, and their fix is usually dead simple.

3 rooms I painted before I ever hired anyone. My lines were clean, no drips, nothing wobbly. I loaded the brush up pretty good and used longer strokes. The trick is having a steady hand and not rushing. I think a lot of these "pro tips" are just personal style differences repackaged as universal rules. If your paint job turned out fine before you changed your method, maybe the old way wasn't the problem.
