Debate: My garage reno with spray foam vs batt insulation after one winter
I finished my garage workshop in September 2020 and went with spray foam on one half and traditional batts on the other to save cash. After just one Edmonton winter, the spray foam side stayed a steady 15 degrees warmer with no drafts, while the batt side had cold spots near the studs. My hydro bill ended up about $40 more per month for the batt side alone. But I know people who swear batts are fine if you do a perfect vapor barrier job. What's your experience with insulation choices for a detached garage in this climate?

Bet the batt side's letting in rodents through those cold gaps.

Question whether a few cold spots really bring in rodents though. Mice can squeeze through anything if they want to bad enough, not just gaps in batts. Sounds like the spray foam gave you more comfort but I bet the savings aren't as huge as people make it out to be.
