Ripped out my basement ceiling after 3 failed attempts at patching

Last month I spent a whole Sunday trying to fix water stains on my drop ceiling tiles in Edmonton. After the third patch job looked worse than the original stain, I just tore the whole thing down and started fresh with drywall. Anyone else just give up on ceiling repairs and go a different route?

Ngl, maybe the real issue wasn't the ceiling but that those stain patches were hiding mold inside the insulation.

Drove me crazy back in 1995 when I tried to patch a popcorn ceiling in my Calgary house. After the third coat of compound crumbled off I just rented a sander and ground the whole thing down to bare drywall. Took forever but at least I didn't have to look at those ugly patches anymore.
