Hot take: Most new houses have terrible junction box placement
I was doing a rough-in last week on a new build out in Chesterfield and I swear the framing crew just put boxes wherever they felt like it. One bedroom had a switch box 14 inches from the corner and the other one was 22 inches. That's not even close to code consistency. I had to move three boxes because they were gonna be behind where the cabinets go. Who is signing off on these layouts? Has anyone else dealt with builders who just let the framers eyeball everything?

Man that's wild... 14 inches on one side and 22 on the other? Sounds like they were just playing pin the tail on the donkey with those boxes.

Playing pin the tail on the donkey" is exactly what it sounds like to me too, @ryan_gibson84. Did they actually measure that side at 22 inches or was that just a guesstimate off a ladder? Cause I bet the guy on the ground just yelled up "looks like 22" and they went with it. That kind of gap would make a huge difference in how the whole row of windows sits on the exterior.
