Tracing every wire in an old house is NOT a waste of time
Most electricians hate old house jobs and just patch stuff up FAST to finish. They think tracing circuits takes too long. On my last call for flickering lights, I spent a whole afternoon following every wire in the attic. Found two buried boxes with melted insulation that NO ONE would have seen. If I had rushed, those could have burned the place down. The homeowner was mad about the delay, but now they sleep safe. That extra time felt like forever, but it MATTERED. We need to stop valuing speed over doing it right.

Guess they'd rather be mad about a delay than thankful their house didn't burn down.

Yeah, that whole preferring to be mad over a delay thing... it's a pattern everywhere. People fixate on the minor hassle right in front of them and just overlook what was actually avoided.

Had a job last year where that extra checking found a junction box hidden behind drywall. The homeowner complained about the bill at first but called back later to say thanks. Sometimes doing it slow is the only way to do it safe.
