Warning: I bought a cheap hot air station that cost me a whole repair job
I got a no name hot air station online for 60 bucks to save money. It worked for a week, then the temperature control went crazy and fried a perfectly good graphics card I was fixing. The client was not happy, and I had to eat the cost of a new card, about 300 dollars. Has anyone found a decent budget station that actually lasts?

Look, maybe it's not the station's fault. People mess up settings all the time. I saw what happened to @sage_martin22's cousin, but that could be user error. A lot of these cheap tools are fine if you know what you're doing. Spending hundreds on a brand name feels like overkill for most hobby work.

Saw a buddy blow a motherboard with a similar cheap station. He ended up buying a used Hakko for like a hundred bucks and it's been solid.

Watched my cousin fry a graphics card with a knockoff iron last year. He still complains about it.
