I used to check hoistway clearances with a tape measure, but after a job in Tampa where we had to redo the whole setup, I switched to a laser distance finder.
The laser is way faster and I haven't had a single callback for tight fit since I started using it about a year ago, so what other tools have you guys swapped out that made a real difference?

Swapping to a laser sounds smart, I made a similar jump from a manual level to a digital one.

Totally get that upgrade path. What made you pick a digital level over sticking with the old trusty bubble one? I still have my manual level in the truck (just in case, you know) but the speed of a digital readout is hard to beat once you get used to it. Was there a specific job that finally pushed you to make the switch?

Ever try a laser level on a big wall?
