Went with a virtual event over in-person for our NYC launch...

I was dead set on doing a big in-person launch party for our new product line. But then I ran the numbers and realized the venue alone would be $12,000, plus catering and travel for speakers. A colleague convinced me to try a virtual event with interactive breakout rooms instead. We had over 400 people register and the engagement was way higher than I expected... Has anyone else switched to virtual after planning in person?

Oh man, I was totally the opposite - I used to swear by in-person only and thought virtual was a cop-out. But seeing how a digital launch can actually work better makes me rethink everything.

Buddy of mine runs a small indie game studio. He spent years thinking he had to do big in-person launches at conventions to get noticed. Then last year his team released a weird little puzzle game, just put it on Steam with a simple trailer and some online demos for streamers. It ended up hitting like 50k downloads in the first week, way more than any booth at PAX ever got him. He told me the whole thing felt like cheating at first because it was so easy compared to all the travel and setup. Funny how the thing you think is a shortcut sometimes ends up being the better option, right?
