Serious question about those 'missing stair' memes going around

I kept seeing this 'missing stair' meme everywhere last month and had zero clue what it meant. Finally looked it up after my cousin in Akron mentioned it at dinner. Turns out it's about a person in a friend group who's a known problem but everyone just works around them like a broken stair. Anyone else feel like this explains half the drama in their circle from the last 3 years?

Found it explains more than I wanted to admit about my old friend group. We had one guy everyone knew was unreliable but nobody wanted to call out directly. Made me realize how exhausting it is to just tiptoe around someone's bad behavior.

Wait, to be fair the original idea wasn't about bad behavior exactly, it was more about a known danger that everyone just silently avoids instead of fixing. It first popped up in the disability and queer communities, not really about friend group drama.
