Unpopular opinion: I used to think foam was the only way to do a tall centerpiece
For years, I'd build everything on a big block of wet foam, which worked fine but made the pieces heavy and limited the shape. Then a client in Austin wanted a five foot tall, airy design for a wedding and the foam just looked clunky. I switched to using chicken wire and floral tape for the frame, which let me get that open, wild look they wanted. It took three tries to get the balance right, but now I use that method for any piece over three feet. Has anyone else moved away from foam for big installs, or am I just making more work for myself?

Leather gloves are the only way...

Yeah I used to roll my eyes at the leather glove crowd, thought it was just old people being dramatic. But after loaning my dad's old pair for a weekend of clearing out a thorny overgrown ditch, I totally get it now. @morgan.logan chicken wire sounds rough though, I stabbed myself with a rose bush thorn through a regular glove and that was bad enough.
