Warning: A bride's mom told me my bouquet was 'too simple' for the price

It happened at a consultation in Akron, she pointed at my peony and eucalyptus design and said 'That's it?'. I explained the cost of those specific blooms in November, but she just shook her head. Has anyone else had to defend a minimalist style to a client expecting more stuff?

Yeah, and honestly, that mindset is why so many weddings end up looking cluttered. People get sold on the idea that more flowers equal more value, but a tight, clean design takes way more skill to pull off. You're paying for the eye to make one perfect peony the star, not just filling space with cheap filler. I'd rather have three stunning stems than a messy armful of whatever was on sale.

My cousin's wedding used a single white orchid in a tall glass vase at each table. It looked way more expensive than the centerpieces at my friend's wedding that were packed with baby's breath and carnations. The florist told her that empty space is part of the design, not a waste of money.

My florist friend in Cleveland calls that the "less is more" tax.
