Had to choose between a new sand mixer or fixing our old furnace at the Tacoma shop

The old Simpson mixer was down to 60% capacity and the main furnace needed a $15,000 rebuild. We picked the furnace fix because we couldn't risk a full meltdown during the winter rush. It worked, but now we're hand-mixing a lot of facing sand... anyone else had to make a call like that between equipment?

Honestly, that furnace call was a huge mistake. You basically traded a known, working bottleneck for a total production killer. That old mixer failing completely would have shut you down way faster than a chilly shop.

Yeah, that "total production killer" is the real fear. Been there with old gear, and you just have to pick the least bad option.

My buddy's shop had that "least bad option" thing happen, and @henry189 is right about the total stop.
