TIL a client's comment about my invoice saved me a ton of hassle
I was dropping off a project for a graphic design client at a coffee shop in Raleigh. When she looked at my invoice, she pointed at the line for 'revisions' and said, 'You should put a cap on this, like 3 rounds included, then hourly after.' I hadn't done that before and it was causing me to lose money on endless tweaks. I added that clause to my standard contract the next day. Has anyone else found a simple contract tweak that fixed a big money leak?

Capping revisions can backfire by making clients hesitant to give needed feedback. It often leads to worse final work because people rush their notes to avoid extra charges. A clear project scope upfront works better than nickel-and-diming on changes.

Exactly right. When clients worry about hitting a revision limit, they either dump all their notes at once or hold back important points. That rushed feedback is messy and often misses the core issue. A solid initial agreement about what the project includes prevents those problems. It builds trust because everyone knows what's expected from the start. Charging for every little change after that feels like a trap, even if it's in the contract.
