I finally connected the dots on why some beaches have black sand

It's from volcanic rock wearing away. Doesn't that show how much the earth changes over time?

Saw black sand like that in Iceland a few years back. The whole beach was this dark gray, and it felt weird walking on it with all the white snow on the mountains right there. Pretty cool how the landscape gets made.

Was it near a volcano?

Oh absolutely. That's textbook volcanic beach sand, like the ones in Hawaii. It feels completely different under your feet compared to normal tan sand, almost gritty. The crazy part is how hot it gets in the sun, way faster than regular sand. I learned that the hard way, nearly burned my feet off once.
