My toddler kept trying to 'help' with my color bowls, so I came up with a kid-safe distraction.

I give them old brushes and empty bottles to play with while I work, and it keeps them busy and out of trouble.

Kid-safe distraction" is the dream. My parents tried that once and I still found a way to paint a mural on the cat. Empty bottles are a solid plan, much better than my old method of just accepting the paint would end up on more walls than paper. At least it's washable, right? My mom says the faint blue streaks on her baseboards just add character.

Brooke, the "mural on the cat" part made me laugh so hard! I also learned the hard way that no plan is truly kid-proof. I once set up what I thought was a perfect painting spot and turned my back for one minute, only to find my kid had decided the white living room carpet was a better canvas than the paper. My mom said the same thing about the baseboards, that the paint splatters were just a happy memory I left behind.

Reading your reply, @kim_smith24. It's @the_brooke, not Brooke, but easy mix-up. Your white carpet story is peak kid creativity, and those baseboard streaks do add character.
