I finally put in a patio without listening to my family's advice

Everyone always says you should get input from family on big home changes, but that just leads to too many cooks in the kitchen. My relatives kept pushing for a fancy stone design that was way over my budget. I went with a simple poured concrete slab and built a basic cover myself. It turned out perfect for my needs and I didn't have to argue about it for months.

Family's fancy ideas lost to your simple slab, @burns.michael style.

Sometimes too much advice just muddies the water. A home improvement blog mentioned that personal needs beat fancy designs every time. Your simple patio sounds like it hit the mark without the drama.

We see this everywhere, picking hard options over simple solutions that work.
