Cassette tapes are popping up at every indie merch table I see lately

Ngl it's kind of funny how we all collectively decided to bring back the most inconvenient format. My car doesn't even have a tape deck, but I still bought one at a show last week. Now I just have this plastic rectangle sitting on my shelf. I guess we're all just paying for a physical thing to hold, even if it means digging out an old Walkman. It's a whole chore to actually listen to the thing after you untangle the tape.

Honestly how many of us are just decorating with tapes now? My shelf has three cassettes I got for the art, but my only player eats them like it's a game. I keep telling myself I'll fix it but really I just like how they look next to my dead succulent.

Does my dusty boombox in the attic count as a preparedness kit?

Old boomboxes are low-key survival gear if they take batteries. AM/FM radio is the real backup when the internet and cell towers go down. That dusty thing might pick up emergency broadcasts long after your phone becomes a brick. The cassette part is useless, but the radio could actually help. You should check if it still powers on.
