Explaining girders to my date at a family BBQ led to confusion.
She thought I was talking about a new fitness trend.

It's funny how often that happens now, where a totally normal word gets heard as some new hobby or app. You see it with tech terms all the time, but it's spreading to old school stuff too. (I guess when everything is branded, our brains just go there first.) It's like common words are losing their original meanings to trendier ones.

Wait, are you serious about old school words getting branded now? Honestly, I just heard someone say 'stream' and my first thought was Netflix, not a river. Ngl, it's kinda scary how our brains jump to the new meaning first. Tbh, I miss when words just meant what they meant. Like, remember when 'cloud' was just in the sky?

Yeah the cloud thing gets me every time. My brain is so wired for tech now that I half expect rain to start buffering.

You say words are "losing their original meanings," but are they really or just adding new ones?
