Seeing my old crew replaced by temp workers on the high-rise job made me realize how much the trade has changed.
We built lasting structures with care, but now it's just about getting it done fast.

How does that even happen with a pump operator? That's such a basic part of the job. It feels like the floor just keeps dropping on what passes for skilled work now. The idea of someone on site who can't read the sheet is honestly scary, not just annoying. No wonder nothing gets built to last anymore when the basics aren't even covered.

On the Phoenix metro job, our pump guy misread the sheet because the engineer's revisions came in late. Sometimes the plans aren't clear or get updated last minute. It's easy to point fingers at the operator, but if the site communication is bad, anyone can mess up. We should look at the whole process before saying skills are dropping.

Check your crew's tickets before they pour the footings. Had a pump operator last month who couldn't read a grade sheet, caused a two-day delay. It's the little things that get missed now.
