Showerthought: That customer service hold music loop is a tiny form of torture
Honestly, I was on hold for ages yesterday and started noticing how the same tune plays over and over. Tbh, it's designed to keep you calm, but after a while, it just makes me more annoyed. Ngl, I read somewhere that this uses psychological tricks to lower your expectations so you're happier when someone answers. But it's frustrating because it feels like they're playing with your patience on purpose. For example, after the tenth loop, I almost hung up even though I needed help. It's a small thing, but it shows how systems can use basic mind games without caring how it affects people. I wish companies would just be straight and tell you how long the wait really is.

My friend Jake was on hold for 45 minutes yesterday.

Oof, that's brutal but so normal now. I had the same thing happen with my airline last month, just endless music and robot voices. It's like these companies want us to give up before we even talk to a person. My record is an hour and ten minutes waiting for a bank, lol. The hold time is the real test of how much you actually need help.

Ugh yes my friend Sam got stuck in airline hold purgatory too! She timed it at 50 minutes listening to that awful jazzy version of a pop song on loop. They finally answered just as she was boarding her actual flight, so she had to hang up. What's the worst hold music you've endured?
