Shoutout to when I figured out why some trendjacking feels off
I remember when every brand tried to use dance challenges in ads. Over time, I learned to see when they don't understand the culture behind the trend. How do you judge if a brand's trend attempt is good or bad?

Disagree, it's more about if the ad feels authentic.

What about when companies try so hard to seem real that it comes off fake? I've seen ads where they use shaky camera work and bad lighting to look homemade, but you can tell it's all planned. Like that soda ad with people laughing at a picnic, but the smiles look too perfect. It feels like they're checking boxes instead of showing real life. Doesn't that just make people trust the brand less? How do you spot when an ad is forcing it?

Is that the ad where they practiced their "real" laughs in a mirror for a week? You can always tell by the dead eyes behind the smile.
