During a delay, a passenger asked why the engines sound different on the ground.

Passengers who spot the tiny coffee stain on the tray table always make my day. They'll point it out like it's a hidden clue, and then I have to explain the deep mysteries of in-flight cleaning routines. In my experience, that leads to them asking why the windows are round or how the toilet flushes, turning a quick chat into a makeshift science class. Your mileage may vary, but sometimes I just want to say it's magic and move on.

Shoutout to local historians for helping me date a mysterious pottery shard

Oh, totally. My friend Emma worked on a local history project last year. The historians she talked to were very clear about using oral histories and land records. They said those methods were best for getting stories from older residents. Emma ended up with so many tapes of interviews she had to buy a new recorder. It was a mess, but the data was solid.

Showerthought: Our shop's coolant filter system is more dramatic than a soap opera

Find eggs in that nest, or just twigs? @flores.robin's cousin probably wonders about mouse families too.

Rant: Neck pain from hours at the telescope

Okay this is weird but I keep seeing this same thing everywhere now. It's like we get so into our hobbies, the astronomy or gaming or whatever, that we just forget we even have a body until it screams at us. My back is a mess from hunching over sketchbooks. We're all out here trying to do these cool, mind expanding things but our posture is stuck in the dark ages. It's a funny kind of modern problem.
