My attempt to go viral with a 'perfect' backyard fire pit cost me $400

Honestly, I saw a video of a guy making a perfect stone circle fire pit that got millions of views. I spent a weekend and $400 on nice, flat stones and sand to recreate it. The video made it look easy, but my pit flooded after the first rain and all the stones shifted. Ngl, I should've just dug a simple hole. Has anyone else wasted cash trying to copy a viral DIY project that looked way simpler than it was?

Oh man, my buddy did something just like that with a fancy outdoor pizza oven build. He watched one of those smooth, fast videos and dropped about three hundred bucks on special bricks and mortar. The thing looked great for a week until he tried a real hot fire and the whole chimney part cracked right down the middle. He ended up ordering pizza that night anyway.

Ugh, that's the worst. Did the video at least mention drainage or anything?

Man I used to think those videos were legit. Then I tried to build that same floating deck everyone was doing. The video made it look like an afternoon with some pallets and screws. My version wobbled so bad I had to take the whole thing apart. Now I just watch them for laughs.
