I finally stopped buying ads based on gut feelings
For two years I was just dumping money into Facebook ads based on what I thought looked good. My click through rates were always around 0.5 percent and I couldn't figure out why. Then last November I started running small A/B tests with different headlines and images. I changed one single line of copy on a test ad and my CTR went up to 1.8 percent. Now I test everything before I spend more than $50 on a campaign. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized your instincts were totally off?

Think about how many people go through life the same way with everything else. We treat relationships, careers, even what we eat based on what feels right instead of what the evidence shows. It's the same pattern playing out everywhere. Your gut is just a collection of old habits and biases dressed up like wisdom. Once you start testing your instincts against real data, you realize most of them were just comfortable guesses.

Wow, the_matthew just called all of us out lol. But seriously, that gut feeling thing is a trap that's way too easy to fall into.
