Rant: Blew my whole ad budget on a campaign that went nowhere

I was running a retargeting push for a local coffee shop in Austin last month, spent around $800 on it, and got exactly 2 conversions out of it. Turns out my pixel was broken for 3 weeks and I didn't catch it because I was too focused on the numbers looking normal. Has anyone else had a pixel silently fail like that and how did you spot it before it cost you that much?

Geez that really sucks. A broken pixel is like the worst hidden leak you can have in ad spend because everything looks fine on paper. I swear Facebook and some of these platforms will show you normal looking numbers even when the tracking is toast. The only way I've caught it is by spot checking actual browser cookies or using a secondary tracking tool like Google Analytics side by side. Honestly you gotta test the conversion path yourself like once a week. Click an ad, add to cart, and see if it fires. It's a pain but cheaper than burning 800 bucks.

Respectfully, I gotta disagree a bit. Manually testing the conversion path once a week still leaves a lot of room for error if the pixel breaks between checks. You can lose a lot of money in just a few days. I've had better luck setting up automatic alerts in Google Analytics for sudden drops in conversion rates or using a tool like Hyros that tracks every click server-side. A weekly check is better than nothing, but for 800 bucks you gotta have real-time eyes on it.
