A client's puzzled look during a contract talk flipped my thinking

I always figured complex legal terms in our agency deals were just how it's done. At a signing, the client stared blankly at one clause and asked if it was a secret code. We all laughed but it felt really awkward. That silly moment made me see that simple words stop confusion. Now I write contracts anyone can get.

Hard terms just push people away. Make it clear so anyone gets it. Less confusion means fewer problems later.

That last confusing contract clause cost us three weeks of back-and-forth.

Isn't it annoying when contracts use words no one understands? Just say it plain. @jamesfox, that three-week back-and-forth shows how bad it gets. Clear terms stop problems before they start. Why write something that needs a lawyer to explain?
