Pro tip: a messy client folder in a Phoenix coffee shop taught me about file retention
Was sorting through a box of old client paperwork at a table in the back. Found a signed contract from 2012 for a project that had a dispute pop up last year. Having that physical copy saved us because their digital records were corrupted. How long do you all actually keep old client files now?

Honestly that sounds like a nightmare. Who wants boxes of old paper taking up space? That 2012 contract was pure luck. For every one you find, there are a hundred useless files. Digital is the way, you just need a good backup system. My old firm scanned everything and kept it in the cloud with version history. If their digital records got corrupted, they just did it wrong. Keeping paper is just hoarding with a fancy excuse.

But what if the cloud goes down too, like in a major outage?
