The $8 silicone mat I bought turned every fry into a soggy mess
Swapped back to just using parchment paper with holes punched in it and suddenly my fries got crispy again in under 12 minutes. Anyone else ditch those air fryer liners for something simpler?

RIGHT? It's like everything now has to have some fancy gadget attached when the old way was already perfect. @gavinlopez hit it perfectly - we overcomplicate stuff that doesn't need it. I see it everywhere, not just in the kitchen. People buy those expensive robot vacuums that get stuck on everything instead of just sweeping for 5 minutes. Or they spend money on a fancy coffee machine with 20 settings when a basic pour-over makes a better cup. Sometimes the simplest tool just does the job better.

Noticed the same thing with smartphones too... everyone's walking around with these thousand dollar cameras and editing apps but half the pictures end up looking fake or overprocessed. A decent point-and-shoot from ten years ago took better vacation photos than most people get now.
