Was binging an old series on Crunchyroll and the subs went out for 12 minutes

I was watching episode 7 of an 80s OVA on my laptop, and the subtitle track just vanished during a key fight scene. Had to scramble through three forum threads to find a standalone sub file that actually synced up. Anyone else keep backup subs for older shows just in case?

Been there man, that panic when the subs just vanish in the middle of a key moment is the worst. I keep a folder on my desktop with like 20 different subtitle files for old shows I've watched repeatedly, just in case Crunchyroll's track craps out or the timing gets off by a few seconds. Last month I was halfway through a 90s mecha series and lost subs during the final episode's big showdown, had to pause and hunt down a fan-synced srt file from some random archive site. Feels like you're never safe with those older OVAs, the streaming masters are usually garbage and the sub timing drifts like crazy.

Yeah exactly, it's like you can never fully trust streaming to just work when it matters most.

Wait, you keep a whole folder of backup subtitle files on your desktop too? I thought I was the only weirdo doing that, but it's saved my butt so many times during rewatches of classics like Macross Plus where the official subs just completely fall apart. Nothing worse than getting into the final emotional scene and having the dialogue vanish right when the main character is giving their big speech.
