Had a customer in Phoenix ask me to fix their 'ice maker' with a hair dryer
They meant the water line was frozen. Showed up and they had the dryer taped to the back of the fridge, melting the plastic liner. Ever seen a 'quick fix' go that sideways?

Wow, that's a new level of DIY disaster. Did they at least turn the water supply off first, or were they just hoping for the best? Some people really shouldn't own tools.

Honestly, the "hoping for the best" part is how these things always start. Tbh, you gotta find the main shutoff valve, usually where the water line comes into the house or at the meter. If it's an old valve, turn it off slow and be ready for it to leak anyway. I keep a bucket and some towels right there before I touch anything.

Oh man, that "hoping for the best" plan is how you end up with a basement swimming pool. Some folks see a pipe and just start twisting things. It's like they think the water will politely stop just because they asked nicely. Gotta have more respect for the main shutoff, that thing is your only friend in a crisis.
