I finally had to stop my dad from tweaking the washer during a fix

My dad often thinks he knows best and tried to adjust the water valve while I was repairing the washer. This nearly led to a leak because he didn't know the correct torque settings. I had to explain why it's dangerous to tamper with parts without proper knowledge. How do you handle family who want to help but lack experience?

Last time my cousin tried to help with plumbing, I just had him hand me tools so he wouldn't mess anything up... It keeps them involved without risking damage to the repair. Sometimes you gotta redirect that helpful energy to safer tasks.

Oh that's smart what @laurap71 did. Reminds me of when my aunt wanted to help me repot some plants last spring. She was so eager but I knew she'd overwater everything the second I looked away. So I just had her sort all the empty pots by size instead. Gave her a job that felt important but kept my plants from drowning. It's all about finding that task that lets them help without actually letting them touch the important stuff.

That redirect trick works with organizing supplies too, lol. Gives them a sense of contribution and saves the actual project.
