Saw something in a Denver repair shop that got me thinking about dryer vent cleaning

I was picking up a used control board from Johnson's Appliance down on Colfax last Tuesday. Guy behind the counter had a pile of lint traps that looked like they'd never been cleaned. He told me most of his service calls for dryers not heating come down to clogged vents or dirty lint traps. I'd say at least 7 out of 10 jobs he sends his techs on are just basic cleaning stuff. Has anyone else noticed how many customers just ignore the simple maintenance and then call us when it breaks?

Man, I used to think people were exaggerating about how bad it gets, but that story changes my mind. Now I make sure to check my own vent way more often than I used to.

Wait, how bad did that story actually get before they noticed? I can't even imagine letting it go that long without checking, that's wild to me. You'd think someone would smell something off way before it got to that point.

Actually that Johnson's Appliance guy might be oversimplifying things a bit. Those numbers sound like they come from a business that wants to sell more cleaning services rather than tackle real mechanical problems. Dryers do fail for real reasons like bad thermostats or worn out belts, and not every non-heating call is just a dirty lint trap.
