Still picking my old analog multimeter over the fancy digital one on compressor checks

Tbh, after 20 years in this trade, I grabbed my beat-up Simpson 260 for a start capacitor test on a 20-year-old fridge last Tuesday and it read true where my $300 Fluke gave me a flaky number. Has anyone else stuck with older gear for specific jobs, or am I just set in my ways?

That Simpson is probably reading what it wants to read, not what's actually there. I had a beat-up analog unit give me a solid reading on a bad cap once, then the digital unit caught the real issue that would've cost me a callback the next week. Old gear is nostalgic, but 20 years of drift is 20 years of drift.

Wait, you've actually had a Simpson lie to you like that? I've seen techs swear by them for decades, but @david37 has a point, drift is drift and that old needle was probably just vibing instead of measuring.
