My favorite climbing saw broke mid-crown reduction last Wednesday
I was 40 feet up in a red oak near Dayton doing a crown reduction last week. About halfway through, my Silky Zubat just snapped at the handle - the blade was fine but the plastic grip gave out completely. I had to finish the rest of the job with my hand pruners, which took forever and killed my hands. Turns out that saw was about 8 years old and I'd left it in the truck bed during a few rainstorms. I grabbed a replacement at a local equipment shop in town but I'm wondering if I should have gone with a different brand. Does anyone else have a climbing saw that lasted them a decade or more?

Eight years is pretty good honestly, I had a Fiskars throw a fit on me after just three seasons but it was a softer handle too. My buddy swears by the older Okatsune models, he's had one since like 2012 and it's still going strong through everything he throws at it. I've actually got one of those little Corona saws that lived in my truck bed for two full winters and it still cuts like a dream somehow. The plastic handles just don't hold up to the weather changes around here, that's why I try to keep my better ones inside now.

Oh man @grace_allen I gotta push back a little on that Fiskars thing, I think yours was just a dud because I've got a pair that's been through five brutal winters and they still lock up tight. Ngl the plastic handle thing is totally true though, I leave mine on the porch and the sun just destroys the rubbery ones after a couple years.
