Spent $400 on a fancy pruning sealer last spring

Turns out all that wound dressing stuff is pretty much useless for trees and can even cause rot. Has anyone else found this out the hard way or did I just waste my money?

Right? "Letting the tree do its thing" is exactly it. I did the same thing a few years back with some expensive spray sealant. That stuff actually trapped moisture and made the cut worse.

lol that's rough, but honestly the best pruning sealer is just letting the tree do its thing. Trees have been healing themselves for millions of years without us slathering goo on them.

aint it funny how the same logic applies to so many things? like how people buy those expensive mattress toppers when a cheap cotton pad works just as good. @cooper.phoenix is dead on though, trees been doing their own thing for way longer than we been trying to "help" them. i fell for that gimmick too once, and now i just laugh at how much money i wasted on stuff that actually made things worse. nature usually knows better than some overpriced bottle of goo.
