Remember when we used to heat shrink with a heat gun and a wet rag?

I tried that old trick on a 2018 F-150 bedside last week and the plastic trim piece behind the wheel well warped like crazy. Had to order a new part from the dealer for $85 and explain to the customer why their repair took an extra day. Anyone still use that method on newer trucks, or is it just asking for trouble now?

You said it warped the plastic trim, but that sounds like a heat control issue, not the method itself. I still use a wet rag on modern panels, just keep the gun moving and test on a scrap piece first. Newer plastics are more sensitive, but blaming the technique is like blaming the hammer when you hit your thumb.

Come on, that's like saying the hammer isn't the problem when it's the wrong tool for the job. Maybe the newer materials just need a better method.

Exactly, it's all about the technique.
