Nobody checks torque on lug nuts anymore, seen 3 wheels come off this month
Shop near me in Phoenix had two cars come in last week with loose wheels. Third one was on the highway, scared the driver half to death. Impact gun tight is not torque tight, people. The spec on most Fords is 100 ft-lbs, takes two minutes to verify. Has anyone else seen this getting worse or is it just my luck?

The 100 ft-lbs figure is close but not universal, a lot of the newer F-150s call for 150 ft-lbs on the rear. Also, some aluminum wheels need a re-torque after 50 miles or so, that's in the manual but nobody reads it. Impact guns are fine if you set them right, but most guys just slam it and move on. Sounds like you got a lazy shop problem, not a industry wide thing.

Actually every Toyota Tundra spec I've seen says 83 ft-lbs on the lug nuts, and they've been that way for years. If the industry was really moving to 150 across the board, my neighbor's Tacoma wouldn't have come with a sticker on the door jamb saying 87. Honestly think the bigger issue is shops using the same torque stick for everything, and that's where the lazy part comes in, not just the spec numbers.
