Shoutout to the old guy at the parts counter who changed my mind about valve cover gaskets
I was buying a cheap cork set for a Ford 300 and he said, 'Kid, spend the extra $12 on the rubber ones. You'll be back here in six months if you don't.' He was right, and that was five years ago. Anyone else have a parts guy story that saved you a comeback?

My local NAPA guy talked me into Fel-Pro gaskets for my old Chevy, and they're still bone dry.

My 1987 K10 had a rear main seal that wept like a sad movie. I tried three different brands over two summers, each one a new mess. Finally caved and got the Fel-Pro set from the parts store downtown. That was five years and a lot of muddy roads ago, and I'm still waiting for that first drop to hit the driveway. Makes me feel a bit silly for all the earlier attempts.
