Broker promised enclosed shipping for $1,200 but my classic Mustang showed up on an open flatbed anyway

I booked with a broker out of Phoenix back in March. Paid a deposit specifically for enclosed transport for my 67 Mustang. Guy named Rick swore up and down it'd be covered. When the truck finally showed up three days late, it was open air. Rick claimed the enclosed carrier "had a mechanical" and they subbed it out without telling me. The driver didn't even have the right tie-downs. My driver side door got a nasty scratch near the handle. Rick refused to refund the enclosed premium. Said it's in the fine print. Is this just how it goes with brokers or did I pick a bad one? Has anyone actually gotten money back for a bait-and-switch like this?

Gotta push back here man, you kinda set yourself up by going with the cheapest broker in Phoenix. Rick probably told you what you wanted to hear so you'd hand over the deposit, and that "fine print" stuff is their whole business model. Everyone's chasing that $1,200 enclosed rate for a classic car and somehow nobody ever gets what they paid for.

Man I've been there, it's a gut punch watching your pride and joy roll up on an open deck after paying extra. Did Rick ever even show you a photo of the carrier he claimed broke down, or was it just a text with no proof? Because if they can't back up that "mechanical" excuse with anything solid, that's when you know it was a straight up lie from the start.
