Heard a senior tech say "just follow the pinout" and it clicked

I was struggling with a weird intermittent fault on a Garmin G1000 backup unit last Tuesday. Guy walked past, saw my multimeter leads everywhere, and told me to stop guessing and read the damn diagram. Has anyone else had that moment where a simple piece of advice saved you hours of troubleshooting?

Had a buddy wrestling with a dead display in his Cessna for two days before someone spotted he was reading the connector upside down.

Buddy of mine was swapping out an old Garmin 430 in his Cherokee and spent three hours chasing a bad ground. He kept thinking it was the unit itself, swapping connectors, the whole deal. Another guy from the hangar next door just leaned over and told him to check the pinout for the data bus shield connection. Turns out he had a bent pin that was shorting to the case, took him twenty minutes to fix once he actually looked at the drawing.
