I tried swapping out the backup battery on a Garmin G1000 without pulling the breaker first

Fried the PFD display for about 10 seconds until I slapped the breaker back in, and now I always pull the breaker and wait 30 seconds before touching any LRUs does anyone else have a near miss story like that with glass cockpit stuff?

Did you try reseating the connector on the PFD after it cooled down? I fried a screen once and just unplugging it and plugging it back in after a few minutes fixed it like nothing happened.

Oh wow, that trick actually worked for a buddy of mine on his older Garmin panel! He read somewhere it has to do with the capacitors discharging fully before they reset properly. I think he waited like 10 minutes just to be safe and it came back to life. Pretty wild that something so simple can fix an expensive piece of gear like that.
