Just hit 500 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail section I've been doing weekends for a year. Always thought that number was for serious hikers, not me.

My first backpacking trip was just a three mile overnighter near Mount Hood. I figured the big numbers were for other people. Hitting 500 miles on weekend trips, that's the real proof it adds up. You just put one foot in front of the other, again and again. It totally changes how you see what's possible. Now I look at a map and see a trail I could actually do.

Congrats on the 500 miles, that's huge. @finleyh89 has a point about it adding up, but for me those weekend miles feel different than a thru-hike. You're carrying the mental load of your normal life the whole time, which makes it harder to get into that pure hiker mindset. It's still a big win, just a different kind of effort.
