Vent: a ranger on the JMT told me my itinerary was trash and he was right
I planned a 7 day route from Tuolumne Meadows to Reds Meadow with 18 mile days and thought I was hot stuff. A ranger at the Lyell Canyon permit desk flat out told me I was setting myself up to hate every pass, and he pointed out I had zero time built in for the altitude. So I cut it to 11 mile days with a layover at Thousand Island Lake, and it was the best trip I have ever done. Has anyone else had a permit person talk them out of their own plan?
