My brother in law said raised beds are a waste of money and I finally get why he's wrong
He stood in my yard last Saturday and told me I dropped $340 on cedar boards for nothing. Said just till the ground and plant. I almost believed him too. But then I remembered his tomato plants last July, all wilted and sad in that hard clay behind his garage. My beds? Same heat wave, same street in Tulsa, and mine were fine. The soil in a raised bed warms up faster in spring so I got tomatoes 3 weeks before him. Plus I don't have to bend over as far, which my back appreciates at 52. He's still tilling that rock hard dirt every spring and fighting weeds all summer. I'll keep my boxes. Anyone else deal with family telling them their setup is dumb?
Did your brother in law also forget that clay turns into concrete by August? My dad pulled the same thing on me until his back gave out and he finally asked me to build him two boxes. Now he brags about his peppers to the same neighbors who watched him struggle for years.
