Talking to my grandma about pie crust changed how I measure flour

She told me she always scoops and levels with a knife instead of using a scale like I do, and I laughed until her shortcut crust came out perfect 3 times in a row. Has anyone else had a family member's old-school method totally upend what you thought was the 'right' way?

My grandma's "pinch of this, glug of that" method made me feel like I needed a culinary degree just to follow her recipe once. I spent 6 months weighing out my flour to the gram like I was running a lab, her crust kept turning out better with a coffee mug and a hope. Now I just eyeball it and pray my math degree was worth something, even if it can't replace her knack.

@butler.finley what’s the ONE thing she’d say you always mess up?
